Angola & coffee

Coffee production in Angola started in 1870 by the Portuguese and has been since the 1960’s one of the biggest Agricultural products in our country. In 1974 Angola was Africa’s largest producer of coffee and the worlds fourth largest producer of coffee in the world with a production of 241.860 tons of coffee . Our country was at the peak of coffee quality during the precidency of Eurico de Azevedo Noronha of the Instituto do Café de Angola (1970’s).

Unfortunatly the war for independance from the Portuguese and the civil war right after that did a lot of damage to our country and our people. The plantations and plants becoming wild bushes and most of the coffee agronomists migrated.

After 30-35 years there were only a few people in our country left that had know how how to cultivate quality coffee. Through the help of the United Nations, the International Coffee Organisation and our own government there were made numerous projects that started to promote and help (our) Angola’s coffee industry.

Our people and farmers are very thankful for this investments which make sure we can bring the unique Anogla’s coffee taste back on the map where it once belonged and also thousands of families in our country have and will have a better economical situation in the future since a long time.
